KOLHAPUR: A team of
CBI officials, along with the state police, has been camping in
Karajanagi village of
Jattaluka of
Sangli district for the last 8-10 days and has been questioning people in the village and adjoining areas
Goa blast accused
RudraPatil, who is also a suspect in the
NarendraDabholkar murder case, belongs to
Karajanagi. According to sources, the CBI and local police questioned
Patil’s relatives, who are associated with the
SanatanSanstha, over the last four days.
Though
Sangli and
Kolhapur police claim to have no knowledge of the CBI presence, sources in the police department confirmed that the agency’s team has been camping there.
Patil’s family holds 100-odd acres of farmland in
Karajanagi, much of it rain-fed. CBI officials are looking for places where
Dabholkar’s shooters were allegedly trained. There are reports with the CBI that the shooters were trained in
Jat. According to local officers,
Karajanagi, about 11km from
Jat, is suitable for such training. “
Patil’s family has been living in the village for years. They have a home in the farm. However, they have not been in contact with outsiders since
Patil’s name cropped up in the
Goa blast. A team of four CBI officials arrived here some 8-10 days ago. The officials are rotated after around four days. The team has not left since the arrest of
VirendrasinhTawade,” police said.
The CBI team, instead of using the
Sangli-Kolhapur route to reach the village, preferred coming from adjoining
Karnataka to avoid media attention, sources said. They are travelling in a couple of vehicles bearing
Karnataka registration, the sources added.
